And my adjective is meant as a sad and tragic irony. I read this article, but I didn't really need to, because the headline says it all.
Deputy Who Didn't Enter Parkland School Defends Himself
Well, yes, that's rather self-evident, isn't it? He didn't go in because he needed to defend himself, not the kids and staff who died.
Protocol, orders, yadda yadda. Law enforcement is hard; heroism even harder. My nephew and brother are city police officers who have faced danger and threats and death and the whole nine yards. Serve and protect. May God have mercy on those who died, and those who have to live with grief and shame.

You can't make this up
The same people who told us to "Let it all hang out" and "Everybody's doing it" in the 60s and 70s are now issuing "Hugging Guidelines" and forcing employees to spy and report on each other for "inappropriate" relationships, whatever that means. No more eye contact at the water cooler? Hester Prynne, call your

Code Blue
I feel another business opportunity coming on: manufacturing T-shirts in blue (or really, any colour) that read: I WILL NOT BE BULLIED INTO WEARING PINK.
The Prophet Steyn (pbuh):
You are not supposed to be weary of the world, only 4 days into the Easter Season, but I'm getting there. Time to stop reading current events and Pray.
.
The Prophet Steyn (pbuh):
"Awareness-raising"? I think we need to raise awareness that, unless you've got the T-shirt concession, all these Pink Days are worthless crap that do nothing for the problem they claim to be addressing. If you've chanced to see me in person, you'll know I often wear a pink shirt. Like the country song says, "I Was Pink Shirt When Pink Shirt Wasn't Cool — Er, Mandatory." But, on Pink Shirt Day, I would wear mauve or turquoise or chartreuse or anything but pink, because, when the state is committed to coercing a ruthless conformity, that's the time to show that a flickering flame of the contrarian, iconoclastic spirit still flickers in the Canadian schoolhouse. You may get bullied for not wearing pink on the Day of Pink, but you'll feel better for it.

Can't they BOTH lose?
The Clintons vs the Obamas. Could also be filed under "The Left eats its own." I don't know whom to cheer for, but I wish they could both lose. And "top aide" Valerie Jarrett? BWAHAHAHAHA. That's like saying Jim Henson was Kermit the Frog's top aide.

Are you sure that's spelled correctly?
Maybe it should be spelled "Goebbels"
Ontario doctors lose their conscience rights.
Canadian, eh? In my view, it reeks a little more of Germany, circa 1939.

“No rights are absolute,” said Gabel. “We may at times have to reconcile competing rights… It is to me a very Canadian place where we have come down.”

Yes, by gum, you can buy them on Amazon.
Must have been produced at the request of the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Maybe in time, they'll muster the effrontery to replace the maple leaf with the symbol they really want.

Barack Obama is Mr. Collins with nukes and drones
There is a reason for studying great literature. It gives us insight into human nature, with the hope that we will learn something, especially about ourselves, and thus attempt to remedy our defects. I'm willing to wager that President Obama has never studied (or even read) Pride and Prejudice.
Man enough to admit he is not perfect; fuller self-awareness (and repentance) achieved by plot denouement
Eariler in the novel...
Mr. Darcy: "I have faults enough, but they are not, I hope, of understanding."
Rough translation: I want to appear just muscular enough not to be mocked.
Americans who support Obama have truly gone down the rabbit hole: they are willing to start a world conflagration so that their self-delusional leader won't look like a fool. Hint: that ship has sailed.
Americans don't agree with my policies because they are too stupid to understand them. Do they not realize that I have much to recommend me, and that it is by no means certain that another offer of such a president may ever be made to them? I must therefore conclude that they are not serious in their rejection of me and my war-mongering; I shall chuse to attribute it to their wish of increasing my love by suspense, according to the usual practice of inelegantly obtuse subjects and serfs.
Jane Austen would have known how to deal with Obama: "Nothing so easy...laugh at him."

WWBBD?
What Would Bugs Bunny Do? Or say? That is, if his wise-cracking politically incorrect wascally wabbit tongue hadn't been silenced and censored long long ago?
He would probably say the same thing that Mark Steyn would say. We are truly in Wonderland when these words appear in America without any irony: "My USDA rabbit license requirement."

There is no point in crying about the destruction of America
So we might as well laugh. From the One. (Steyn, of course.) We are all doomed, LOL!
[T]he president... insists with a straight face that he had no idea that the Internal Revenue Service had spent two years targeting his political enemies until he “learned about it from the same news reports that I think most people learned about this.” Like you, all he knows is what he reads in the papers. Which is odd, because his Justice Department is bugging those same papers, so you’d think he’d at least get a bit of a heads-up. But no doubt the fact that he’s wiretapping the Associated Press was also entirely unknown to him until he read about it in the Associated Press.
There is a “president of the United States” and a “government of the United States,” but, despite a certain superficial similarity in their names, they are entirely unrelated, like BeyoncĂ© Knowles and Admiral Sir Charles Knowles. One golfs, reads the prompter, parties with Jay-Z, and guests on the Pimp with a Limp show, and the other audits you, bugs your telephone line, and leaks your confidential tax records. But they’re two completely separate sinister entities. So it’s preposterous to describe Obama as Nixonian: BeyoncĂ© wouldn’t have given Nixon the time of day.

TGIFWTA: this will be my last post on the topic of politics
... at least for a while. Yesterday morning, I read this post over at Deborah Gyapong's "Foolishness to the World" blog. She writes:
All I know is that I need a break. As an Advent project (but starting immediately, as in, yesterday), I have decided to go on a starvation diet when it comes to reading about politics. I have already deleted all the political blogs and websites from my "Top Sites" page (even Mark Steyn! so you know I mean bidness), and have determined to read only stuff about faith, mothering, homemaking, and art: you know, the things that actually matter and will really save the world. Also possibly education (but that gets political too, alas).
Here are the Avett Brothers. I love this recording, because, as one commenter pointed out, it sounds like it came from an old gramophone.
Saddest part: politicians no longer have to "leave town" when their "bad parts start to show"; now they get elected because of them. In other words, the weight of lies no longer brings you down--not in this world.
Peace.

Hello all, I am spiritually fortifying myself after the depressing re-election victory of the worst president in American history since Jimmy Carter.I said to myself: "My feelings exactly!" I'm not really sure why I felt so compelled to stay abreast of the campaign, or spend so much time reading the (always depressing, sometimes delusional) commentaries and rantings of various writers and bloggers. Especially since I'm not American.
I’m going to the gym and getting on with life after spending way too much emotional energy and time on the Internet riveted to the election.

Carry on
Is what the Sultan recommends. "Game Called on Account of Darkness." And how profound that darkness is. There is no positive way to spin this: either there was massive fraud involved, or else the majority of a nation just voted to destroy itelf. Tragic.

A hymn for election day in America
My prayers are with you all. No matter who is victorious, it is nevertheless true that we cannot ultimately put our faith in men or princes. Hymn from this morning's Office of Readings.
Lift up your heads, ye mighty gates;
Behold, the King of glory waits;
The King of kings is drawing near;
The Savior of the world is here!
Behold, the King of glory waits;
The King of kings is drawing near;
The Savior of the world is here!
A Helper just He comes to thee,
His chariot is humility,
His kingly crown is holiness,
His scepter, pity in distress.
His chariot is humility,
His kingly crown is holiness,
His scepter, pity in distress.
O blest the land, the city blest,
Where Christ the Ruler is confessed!
O happy hearts and happy homes
To whom this King in triumph comes!
Where Christ the Ruler is confessed!
O happy hearts and happy homes
To whom this King in triumph comes!
Fling wide the portals of your heart;
Make it a temple, set apart
From earthly use for heaven’s employ,
Adorned with prayer and love and joy.
Make it a temple, set apart
From earthly use for heaven’s employ,
Adorned with prayer and love and joy.
Redeemer, come, with us abide;
Our hearts to Thee we open wide;
Let us Thy inner presence feel;
Thy grace and love in us reveal.
Our hearts to Thee we open wide;
Let us Thy inner presence feel;
Thy grace and love in us reveal.
Thy Holy Spirit lead us on
Until our glorious goal is won;
Eternal praise, eternal fame
Be offered, Savior, to Thy Name!
Until our glorious goal is won;
Eternal praise, eternal fame
Be offered, Savior, to Thy Name!
George Weissel, 1642. Music: Psalmodia Evangelica, 1789.

Emphasis with nothing to emphasize!
Soon, I promise I'll stop comparing him to The Steyn and just bow before the Sultan for his own sake. In the final hours, Daniel Greenfield sums up the Obama campaign.
There could hardly be a better sample of the style over substance politics of the style over substance candidate than a press release issued touting the energetic qualities of its exclamation point. Sure the Romney campaign might be gaining in Florida, Ohio and Virginia, but Team Obama is getting vigorous with its punctuation...
[...]With the first debate, Team Big Bird realized that wouldn’t work, and Valerie Jarrett got out the cattle prod and put an exclamation point at the end of Obama.Heh. Read it all.

I love him cuz he uses "rhubarb" as a pejorative term
And with good reason.
Moreover, when he uses the phrase "boy howdy" you know you're in for a jolly ride. My buddy Theo at the Daily Caller. "The presidential race is over, cue the conspiracy theories"

while there are some smart people on the left, it requires almost no thinking to be a liberal. Simply absorb the political sentiments you hear in almost any Hollywood film, or on most any television program or newscast and, presto, you’re in. Repeat these nostrums at school or work and you will be rewarded. Augmented by the emotional satisfaction of the left’s perpetual righteous indignation, this dynamic becomes self-fulfilling and very cozy.And of course, it begs the question: will 'rhubarb' soon be classified as a dog-whistle racist code word?

A Tale of Two Americas
If Ansar al-Sharia and their various allies around the globe have their way, Lena Dunham would be treated exactly as was Malala Yousufzai, the 14-year old Pakistani girl who was shot in the head by the Taliban for the crime of urging girls to read.
And it is the Tyrone Woods of the world who are out there every single day where their lives are literally on the line doing their damndest to protect a 26-year-old Lena Dunham's right to act like a "Girl" on HBO.
But where is Dunham politically? Oh right. She's with the guy who knew Tyrone Woods was trapped there in Benghazi determined to rescue his colleagues from some seriously deadly war-on-women types.Damning. Jeffrey Lord at American Spectator

The Marines still use bayonets. That is all.
Unless you want more.
And of course, I'm holding my breath waiting for The Steyn's response.

I can't say this because I'm white.
I'm also not American. So I'll let Perry Drake say it.
h/t Deborah Gyapong
.
Obama is not the first "black" man elected president, no matter how many people think so. I'm "black," and I can tell you: "black" in this context is more than the color of my skin. It's a shared experience, a purely American experience -- if you will -- which stretches back to when the first Africans were brought in shackles to our shores in the mid-1600s.
Nothing in Obama's background speaks of the American experience. It's not difficult to understand why. Obama is the son of a white woman with jungle fever and a commie Kenyan. He was raised in circumstances that almost all Americans -- let alone blacks -- would find foreign.
Obama is best described as an "African in America." (And no, I'm not a birther, despite the earlier "Nairobi" joke.) The difference between Obama's actual identity and an actual "black" person's is no small distinction. It explains how he could hold such an outdated view of the violence plaguing black communities across the nation. It explains why you never see him campaigning in black communities or dropping by for photo ops. (Well, that and because he knows that 95 percent of "those people" are going to vote for him anyway.)
It's also explains why Obama's first instincts are always to blame America first and profusely apologize for past American actions.

Reason #3040595854837366 to homeschool
The Steyn:
Yet somehow a bureaucrat in the Department of Agriculture wound up with a monopoly on what your kids eat.
If only we could opt out of Big Government and its attendant demonic bureacracies as easily.

David Letterman: prophet or Freudian slipper?
His first question to Obama the evening after the terrorist attack in Benghazi:
"How much do you weigh these days?"
Apparently, not much.
Breitbart:
SUN's Ezra weighs in (sorry) too.
Well, maybe not all the media. This photographer seems to have caught the gist.
"How much do you weigh these days?"
Apparently, not much.
Breitbart:
With middle class incomes deflating, four Americans recently assassinated by al-Qaeda, poverty and gas prices increasing, and the debt already saddling our children and grandchildren with mortgage-sized debt, Americans aren’t likely to be any more enamored than the media with Obama's non-stop "smallness."
SUN's Ezra weighs in (sorry) too.
The debates revealed Obama as a lightweight. But they also revealed that for four years, the mainstream media has covered up that fact.
Well, maybe not all the media. This photographer seems to have caught the gist.
Bad optics? He looks tiny even in relation to the prompters--
which is another unfortunate metaphor all on its own.

Why I blog about U.S. politics
Even though I don't pretend to know a whole lot. Because what transpires south of the 49th parallel totally matters to us Canucks.
The Agenda with Steve Paikin (Best. Moderator. Ever.) on "The Better President for Canada." Featured on the in-studio panel: the perennially delightful Theo Caldwell, whom I still miss from that other show that's no longer on SUN TV.
Worth the 35 minutes (watch while you do the dishes or something). There were even some LOL moments. The self-delusion of the Left knows no bounds. Example: Obama would be a better president because, abortion.
Best line: (Theo) "Sorry, was I interrupting you, Sheila?" (She was the only woman--a Liberal--on the panel and she was constantly interrupting the other gentlemen, who were indeed gentlemen, because they never interrupted anyone.)
