I've only read the first few pages available on-line of this (read her other book "Nickle and Dimed") and it has me excited: http://www.amazon.com/For-Her-Own-Good-Centuries/dp/1400078008/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1336057078&sr=8-4
It's one of the few text I've seen that acknowledges the shift which the Industrial Revolution caused (No one expects the Industrial Revolution!).
The (what I think of as) companion text is this: http://www.amazon.com/The-Hearts-Men-American-Commitment/dp/0385176155/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1336057078&sr=8-12
While I don't necessarily agree with everything she says, it's a fresh look true issues that need to be faced instead of utilized as political sound bites.
